Our Trash, Our Choice

Our science center teachers, Mr. Musselman and Ms. Pavlicek, presented the school with an informative and engaging assembly: Our Trash, Our Choice.  They chose volunteers from the audience to go through trash that they had collected from yesterday's lunches.  The volunteers went through the lunch collection and categorized the items into 3 piles: trash, recycling, and food waste.  As of now, all of Francis Wyman's cafeteria waste gets thrown out.  Mr. M. and Ms. P. gave the school a challenge- to reduce food waste and to recycle food trash over the next week.  They will be working with students over the next couple of days to help with the process.

All the waste from yesterday's lunches.

Volunteers sorted the waste.
Several unopened  bottles of water were found.
Water bottles should be empty and recycled.
Volunteers getting "suited up" for the sorting!
Volunteers opening up the bags of trash.
The Big Question
Data will be kept.

Hopefully food waste and trash will be lowered and recycling will go up!

Right now we don't have any recycling going on in the cafeteria.

Ending thought.
